Main Street U.S.A.
Track Replacement

This project, like many, served a functional need as well as an aesthetic improvement. The movement of the horse-drawn carriage along the existing concrete caused frequent cracking. Brick has a higher PSI and is not as susceptible to cracking, so we chose this beautiful mixture of brick to line

Tomorrowland Entrance

The Tomorrowland entry walls are an iconic snapshot of the land. Kim Irvine wanted to enhance these planters and give a nod to the 1967 fountains that flanked the entry. We added plants that would mimic water within the "tulip" bowls along with succulents and grasses at the base to reflect ripples of water. In-field direction was key at this installation so we could view it at every angle and be sure it read to the Guests the way we intended.

Sleeping Beauty Castle

Castle + Landscape Refresh

I worked closely with Kim Irvine for this stunning refurbishment of Sleeping Beauty Castle. We wanted the colors in the landscape to coordinate with those in the new paint scheme. We also chose plant material that reflected those shown in the original film to help make this the most authentic experience for the Guests as possible.

Downtown Disney

Bridge

Each area, no matter how big or small, has the opportunity to make an impact. This is a great example of just that. This bridge is a prominent walkway through Downtown Disney. It had Carissa and Hemerocallis, which didn't create any pop as Guests walked through. Located between the Lego Store, Tortilla Joe's and Ralph Brennan's Jazz Kitchen, we felt this landscape should be as fun as it's neighbors while also exhibiting how drought tolerant plants can be lush and beautiful.

GCH Craftsman Grill

This elevated poolside restaurant at the Grand Californian Hotel reflects the Craftsman style and Arts and Crafts design features of the Hotel itself. We tied in the brick elements of the pool and matched the stamped concrete of the adjacent thoroughfare to make this feel like it's always been here. One of my favorite elements in this design is the Wisteria we planted that reflects in Jennifer Skinner's stunning lighting design and Megan Contreras's divine graphics, especially in the marquee. Getting to work with Architect Brad Clemens was also a delight as we collaborated on the crossovers of Architecture and Landscape Architecture.

Pool Remodel

One of my first projects as an Imagineer was getting to be a part of this installation of Julie Bush's design alongside her and Producer Michele Hobbs. There are three different pools, and they each have their own personality and design style. Working with the contractors during installation to make sure there were no trip hazards, that the stone sizes were laid at random so as to look as natural as possible, and that the joints were uniform made for a beautiful end result.

Marquee Hardscape

For this project, we removed the existing landscape and match the surrounding stamped, integral color concrete and natural rock base of the marquee. Guests gather here to get their photos taken, and it was causing circulation issues. By removing the existing landscape, Guests were able to get closer to the marquee, and circulation was maximized.

Sonoma Terrace

Sonoma Terrace is a relaxing, tucked away area off of the main Parade Route at California Adventure. We always want to create more opportunities for Guests to be able to get a reprieve from a busy, fun-filled day while also providing a place to grab a snack and maximize parade viewing abilities. This project checked all of those boxes. We utilized an existing planter and created seating within it, using rich flagstone and integral color, stamped concrete to mimic the natural floor of a biergarten and complimented with a colorful, Mediterranean style plant palette..

Project "Stardust"

This has been a years-long project that maximizes Guest flow and beautifies multiple areas throughout Disneyland Park. Click through to see some examples of how we made improvements from land to land.

Matterhorn

For a long time, The Matterhorn entrance utilized stanchions and queueing that always felt temporary. This was another project I was able to work closely with Julie Bush and Kim Irvine on, as well as many other talented designers, to help create a comfortable, shaded queue that felt like it's always been there. Utilizing paving that helped reflect the surroundings, Elm trees in decorative grates and a planting palette that makes the Guests feel like they're in the cool climate of Switzerland, this new queue feels perfectly old world.

Rainforest Café

Prior to this landscape refresh, the current planting was a bit unexciting. We wanted to make the outside just as fun, vibrant and colorful as it is on the inside! By using unique tropicals and hand picked aquatics, we were able to create a colorful entry to the restaurant.

Snow White Grotto

What's more quintessential Disney than Snow White? For this refresh, we used colorful, playful plant material that reflects the ones found in the original film. We also needed to screen the background to help make this feel like a true forest. In working with Urban Forester Rhonda Wood and adding a new, large Quercus agrifolia (that fit like a glove!) as well as some screening Prunus behind Snow White, we were able to achieve this.

Residential Design

I began my professional career with residential design, and I still enjoy it in my free time! I have been fortunate to work on over 200 residential landscapes, but here is one of my favorites...
